Shaped Breast Implants

Anatomic breast implants, also called tear-drop breast implants and shaped implants, are the latest addition to the possible choices of breast implants when planning on having a breast augmentation. Breast implants may be filled with saline or silicone gel, the shell may be smooth or textured, and now may also be round or shaped. Shaped, anatomic, or tear-drop implants may be better for women who desire a breast augmentation with less upper pole fullness than a round implant might provide. In many ways, this may be a matter of personal preference as some women want more upper pole fullness, in which case a round implant may be a better choice. There are some situations however where a shaped implant may be more ideal, such as a woman with a shorter, wider chest, without a lot of room between the upper part of the breast and the collar bone – in this situation a round implant with a lot of upper pole fullness may get to close to the collar bone and not look very natural at all. The best way to decide which implant is best for you is to have a thorough consultation with a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
