Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy
Intensed Pulsed Light Laser Therapy (IPL) technology is a safe, nonsurgical, noninvasive treatment that uses light to rejuvenate the skin. Intense pulsed light is a very versatile system. Because it is capable of emitting light at various different wavelengths, different types of skin conditions can be treated by using different filters in the machine. Conditions that Dr. Weinrach can treat with intense pulsed light include:
- Irregular Pigmentation
- solar lentigines (sun spots)
- epidermal lentigines
- melasma
- ephelides (freckles)
- post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
- Vascular lesions
- telangiectasias (spider veins)
- port-wine stains
- poikiloderma
- red scars
- rosacia

IPL therapy usually consists of a series of treatments, and almost any area of the body can be treated. Depending on the size of the area treated, the IPL therapy procedure time varies. IPL treatments of freckles or brown spots usually require no downtime, and you can return to normal daily activities immediately. Over a 2 to 3 week period any brown spots may darken initially and will then flake off and fade. IPL treatments of vascular lesions in some cases may involve some temporary minor bruising as the tiny blood vessels are broken up by the light. This usually resolves in several days to one week.
Wearing sunscreen and avoiding sun exposure are very important after a treatment with intense pulsed light. This will help to prevent recurrence of sun damage and brown spots. The number of treatments depends on the skin condition being treated. Some conditions respond more quickly to treatment than others.
