Are You a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation Surgery?
First, a good candidate for breast augmentation are women who are healthy and have realistic expectations about what breast augmentation surgery mammoplasty can accomplish. The best candidates for breast augmentation have excellent skin elasticity with no excess breast skin or breast sagging. Women with breast sagging often require a breast lift or mastopexy addition to a breast implant in order to tighten the skin and lift the nipple to a more youthful position. This provides much more desirable results for the patients.
Saline implants can be acquired at age 18 and silicone implants at age 22.
What Are Breast Implants?
Many people are actually quite confused about what breast implants are made of. Breast implants can be filled with either saline (salt water) or silicone gel. Both types of breast implants have a silicone shell. Breast implants can either be round or shaped (teardrop), or have a smooth or textured shell. Silicone gel filled breast implants generally have a much more natural feel to them when compared with saline breast implants – they feel much more like a natural breast. However silicone gel filled breast implants cost more than saline implants. There are also different subtypes of gel filled implants, some more “gummy” than others. On the other hand saline filled breast implants do not feel as natural as silicone gel filled breast implants but do cost significantly less. Here is a brief video demonstrating some differences between saline and silicone gel filled breast implants:

What Is Breast Augmentation Surgery?
Dr. Weinrach has the privilege to perform breast augmentation surgery in fully accredited facilities across Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Phoenix, Mesa, and Chandler, Arizona. Breast Augmentation is an outpatient procedure, lasting approximately 1 hour with no overnight stay is required.
For the great majority of women, the breast implant is placed underneath the pectoralis muscle through a small incision in the fold at the bottom of the breast where the breast meets the chest. Although other incision sites are possible, for a multitude of reasons the inframammary fold incision is advantageous for most women. Incision options will also be discussed during your consultation with Dr. Weinrach to achieve the best results.
Dr. Weinrach utilizes a Keller Funnel when placing a breast implant in all patients. The Keller Funnel is a simple but ingenious invention that greatly improves breast augmentation. It is simply a sterile, cone-shaped device that allows for much more rapid placement of a silicone gel breast implant, and with a much shorter incision, than was possible before this device existed. The other great benefit is that the funnel protects the implant from ever contacting the skin as it travels into the pocket; no skin bacteria can come into contact with the implant. This greatly increases the chances of a long-lasting soft and natural breast augmentation. Here is a brief video which demonstrates how a Keller Funnel works:
Is Breast Augmentation Surgery Performed Under Anesthesia?
Breast Augmentation is performed while you are completely asleep. You will not be aware of anything while the surgery is taking place and will feel no discomfort during surgery. For healthy patients anesthesia is extremely safe; safety is always Dr. Weinrach’s number one priority. Anesthesia is administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist. Discomfort after breast augmentation is well managed with over the counter pain medication; sometimes small amounts of prescription pain medication are added.
Recovery After Mammoplasty Surgery
The great majority of patients require very little time off of work. Many patients with non-physical jobs are back to work several days or even less after surgery. Aerobic types of exercise are gradually reintroduced over several weeks after breast augmentation. Dr. Weinrach usually recommends abstaining from full weight bearing types of chest workouts for 6 weeks after breast augmentation. Placement of breast implants, in addition to simply enlarging breast volume, can restore ideal body proportions, making the waistline appear slimmer, and allowing the hips to be in better harmony with the rest of the body.
