Arm Lift

Arm lift IN SCOTTSDALE & PHOENIX– WEINRACH PLASTIC SURGERY

An arm lift (Brachioplasty), recontours the upper arm, from the elbow to the armpit area by removing excess skin. Brachioplasty can reshape and enhance your arms, turning lax skin and localized fat deposits into a sleek contour.

Double board-certified plastic surgeon, Jonathan C. Weinrach MD, FACS offers this procedure to improve sagging upper arms which result from genetics, aging, or weight fluctuations.

To schedule a consultation call (480) 634-6014 or contact us today.

Am I a Candidate for an Arm Lift?

An individual whose upper arms sag and appears loose and full may be the right candidate for Brachioplasty. People who have experienced substantial weight loss may fall into this category as well as those who have sagging skin on the upper arm as a result of genetics or the natural aging process. Although diet and exercise will tone muscles and improve overall health; stretched out inelastic skin that is left after weight loss will not respond.

Excellent candidates for brachioplasty include:

  • adults with substantial upper arm skin laxity
  • adults who are close to their ideal weight and whose weight is stable
  • healthy patients who have no medical conditions which will increase surgical risk or impair the natural healing process
  • people with realistic expectations about brachioplasty

If you are unsure if you are a candidate or would like to know more about an arm lift, you can schedule a consultation with Dr. Weinrach and take the next step towards sleek, slim upper arms.

Arm Lift Consultation

Dr. Weinrach offers a discreet, stress-free environment where you can talk about your vision and ask important questions. Together, you will work with the doctor to discuss:

  • your desired outcome and expectations.
  • your reasons for wanting an arm lift.
  • current medical treatments, drug allergies, and current medical condition.
  • your ongoing use of medications, vitamins, and supplements, as well as alcohol and tobacco usage.

Dr. Weinrach may also:

  • evaluate any pre-existing conditions, risk factors, and your general health.
  • give you a medical examination and record measurements and details.
  • advise you to refrain from anti-inflammatory medications like aspirin or ibuprofen for two weeks before surgery.

If you smoke, you will likely not be a candidate for most body lifting procedures including arm lift.  Use of tobacco and nicotine containing products will have to be discontinued for three months before being considered for surgery.

What to Expect

A Brachioplasty with Dr. Weinrach is an outpatient procedure. The surgery will take about two hours, longer if the issue is severe or there are other procedures done concurrently like liposuction.

Dr. Weinrach will make incisions on the inside of your upper arm (back side). They will range from just above the elbow to the underarm with the length determined by the amount of excess skin. In cases of substantial weight loss such as after bariatric surgery, very large amounts of excess skin may require incisions that continue through the armpit to the side of the chest, and even below the elbow.

Dr. Weinrach may perform liposuction before removing the excess skin. Next, he will remove any excess skin, tighten tissues, and close the incisions with absorbable sutures. There are usually no sutures to remove after arm lift. A small temporary drainage tube may be used depending on the case.

You may experience mild discomfort after the procedure with some swelling and bruising. Pain medications will be prescribed to alleviate any discomfort resulting from surgery. Discomfort, swelling, and bruising should resolve within two weeks. We will ask you to keep your arm elevated as much as possible to minimize swelling and decrease pain. Many patients use pillows to prop their arm up when they are resting or asleep.

Dr. Weinrach will provide you with important after-surgery instructions to make recovery as smooth as possible.

Brachioplasty Results

The tighter, smoother contours which result from Brachioplasty are visible almost instantly following your operation. Initially, you can expect some swelling and possibly bruising;  as these resolve the improvement will be dramatic.

The benefits you receive from an arm lift will be long-lasting if you maintain your healthy weight and remain fit. As you age, it is natural to lose some firmness in your upper arm; the large amounts of excess skin removed however is permanent.

After recovery, you will enjoy your sleek, slim arms which will give you more clothing choices like sleeveless blouses, tank tops, and spaghetti straps.

We find many of our patients look to combine other body contouring procedure with an arm lift to improve their overall body contour. These treatments include a body lift, liposuction, tummy tuck, and breast surgery. Close follow up with Jonathan C. Weinrach MD, FACS after surgery is the best way to ensure optimal and long-lasting results.

Arm Lift Faqs

An Arm Lift is typically not a very painful procedure.  You will have some dressings on after the procedure and will be asked to elevate your arms to help with swelling.  Light activity is recommended during the first week with gradual increase in activity after this.

To the best of our knowledge, most if not all insurance companies will not pay for Arm Lift surgery.

Dr. Weinrach only operates in fully accredited surgical facilities in Scottsdale.

Any surgical procedure carries some risk.  The most common risks for any surgical procedure are bleeding and infection.  These are very unusual complications of Arm Lift.

Yes, Arm Lift Surgery does leave visible scars.  The key is to place the scar in the most inconspicuous location possible.  There are different location options for Arm Lift, which Dr. Weinrach will discuss with you during your consultation.
