Arm lift IN SCOTTSDALE & PHOENIX– WEINRACH PLASTIC SURGERY
An arm lift (Brachioplasty), recontours the under portion of the upper arm, from the elbow to the armpit area by removing excess skin. Brachioplasty can reshape and enhance your arms, turning lax skin and localized fat deposits a sleek contour.
Double board-certified plastic surgeon, Jonathan C. Weinrach MD, FACS offers this procedure to improve sagging upper arms which result from genetics, aging, or weight fluctuations.
Am I a Candidate for an Arm Lift?
An individual whose underside of their upper arms appears loose and full or sags may be the right candidate for Brachioplasty. People who have experienced substantial weight loss may fall into this category as well as those who have sagging skin on the upper arm as a result of genetics or the natural aging process. Diet and exercise will not resolve this issue because the loose skin will not effectively drape over the smaller but toned muscles.
Excellent candidates for brachioplasty include:
- adults with substantial upper arm skin laxity
- adults who are close to their ideal weight and whose weight is stable
- healthy patients who have no medical conditions which will increase risks during surgery or impair the natural healing process
- people with realistic expectations about brachioplasty
If you are unsure if you are a candidate or would like to know more about an arm lift, you can schedule a consultation with Dr. Weinrach and take the next step toward a sleek, slim upper arm.

Dr. Weinrach may also:
- evaluate any pre-existing conditions, risk factors, and your general health.
- give you a medical examination and record measurements and details.
- advise you to refrain from anti-inflammatory medications like aspirin or ibuprofen for two weeks before and two weeks after surgery.
If you smoke, you will be advised to stop smoking before surgery and through the recovery period.
What to Expect
A Brachioplasty with Dr. Weinrach is an outpatient procedure. The surgery will take about two hours, longer if the issue is severe or there are other procedures done concurrently like liposuction.
Dr. Weinrach will make incisions on the inside of your upper arm (back side). They will range from just above the elbow to the underarm with the length determined by the amount of excess skin. If the patient has lost substantial weight or had bariatric surgery, there may be more skin than usual, and the incision may run through the armpit to the side of the chest.
Dr. Weinrach may perform liposuction before making the incisions. Next, he will remove any excess skin, tighten tissues, and stitch the remaining skin in place with deep, absorbable sutures. On the surface, he may use conventional sutures, which we remove within two weeks after surgery.
Following brachioplasty, we wrap your arm in bandages and a compression garment to minimize inflammation. You may also have a thin tube inserted for drainage of excess fluid which can collect in the treatment area.
You may experience mild discomfort after the procedure with some swelling and bruising, peaking two or three days after surgery. Pain medications will be prescribed to alleviate any pain resulting from surgery. Discomfort, swelling, and bruising should subside within two weeks. We will ask you to keep your arm elevated as much as possible to minimize swelling and decrease pain. Many patients use pillows to prop their arm up when they are resting or asleep.
Dr. Weinrach will issue you important after-surgery instructions to follow, which will ensure your recovery is successful. One thing to keep in mind is that abrasion, excessive force, or sudden movement during the healing process can cause problems. Follow the instructions, and you should be able to recover without issue.
Dr. Weinrach is dedicated to helping patients achieve their aesthetic goals through an individualized approach to patient care and commitment to safety. His extensive experience and unique skill set produces long-lasting, natural looking results.
The tighter, smoother contours which result from Brachioplasty are visible almost instantly following your operation. Initially, bruising and swelling will obscure the aesthetic benefits, but the improvement will still be noticeable.
The benefits you receive from an arm lift will be long-lasting if you maintain your healthy weight and remain fit. As you age, it’s natural to lose some firmness in your upper arm, but the improvement you gain from the surgery will be mostly permanent.
After recovery, you will enjoy your sleek, slim arms which will give you more clothing choices like sleeveless blouses, tank tops, and spaghetti straps.
We find many of our patients look to combine other body contouring procedure with an arm lift to improve their overall body contour. These treatments include a body lift, liposuction, tummy tuck, and breast surgery. Following up with Jonathan C. Weinrach MD, FACS after surgery is the best way to ensure optimal and long-lasting results.
