Brow Lift in Scottsdale & Phoenix:Jonathan C. Weinrach, MD FACS
Even if you work hard to wear sunscreen, take care of your face, and maintain a healthy lifestyle, you can’t always beat gravity, the sun, and natural wear and tear on your skin. Lines and wrinkles are inevitable for us all.
With age comes the loss of elasticity, which, in turn, produces wrinkles. Looking in the mirror and noticing the signs of aging can shake self-confidence.
A brow lift (also known as a forehead lift) is a popular cosmetic technique for people who are experiencing low, sagging brows or stress lines on the upper parts of the forehead.
Dr. Jonathan Weinrach, an experienced plastic surgeon in the Scottsdale & Phoenix, AZ, areas, typically performs brow lifts on patients aged 40-60, but he is happy to work with good candidates of any age who are healthy and interested in long-term facial rejuvenation.
Some people combine a brow lift with other cosmetic surgery like a facelift or an eyelid lift to create an overall facial rejuvenation. Eyelid lift removes and repositions extra tissue around the eyes, giving the area around the eyes a more refreshed, youthful appearance.
The Steps Before A Brow Lift
The best candidates for a brow lift are people with low eyebrows who have realistic expectations about the outcome, are in good health, and are nonsmokers.
Jonathan C. Weinrach, MD FACS works carefully with all patients to give detailed instructions before the procedure. Your medical history and current medications will be reviewed.
Brow lift is usually an outpatient procedure. If combined with a facelift, an overnight stay may be recommended, depending on the circumstances. Very healthy, younger patients with less extensive facelifts can sometimes go home after surgery. You should arrange for transportation back home. Anesthesia will impair your driving ability.
Safety is of utmost importance to Dr. Weinrach during a brow lift. To maximize safety, he only conducts procedures inside of accredited surgical centers or hospitals.

Various Brow Lift Techniques
Jonathan C. Weinrach, MD FACS usually performs forehead lifts under general anesthesia. Brow Lift technique has evolved greatly. The basic types are:
This technique is not recommended for the great majority of people. The classic brow lift is a technique where a large incision is made at the start of one ear and extends across the head to the other ear. After making the cut, a surgeon will lift the skin to manipulate the muscles around the eyebrows. Extra scalp skin is then trimmed to lift the forehead and eyebrows. Dr. Weinrach does not usually recommend this technique because the incision made is long, causes numbness of the scalp, and can cause hair loss around the incision.
This procedure involves making shorter scalp incisions to insert an endoscope (small camera) into the forehead. Instruments are inserted in the various incisions to loosen the forehead tissues so they can be smoothed out. The tissue is secured into its new position by many different methods such as sutures, temporary screws, or absorbing anchors. While this procedure doesn’t cause a large scar, results do not seem to be long lasting and recurrence of eyebrow ptosis (drooping) is high. As a result, Dr. Weinrach does not recommend this technique.
This is Dr. Weinrach’s treatment of choice. This brow lift procedure is long-lasting, can be carried out quickly, and most importantly is a very powerful and effective method of raising the eyebrow. During surgery, Dr. Weinrach makes an incision in the hairline of the temple area. Dr. Weinrach can then loosen the skin between the skin and the eyebrow. The eyebrow is then lifted into its new position by placing upward traction on the newly mobilized skin. The extra skin is then removed. This method also can improve the hairline in patients with thinning of the hair in this area.
Getting Back To Normal After A Brow Lift
Brow lift is a relatively quick procedure that can be carried out on an outpatient basis. You will be able to get up and walk right after surgery. Dr. Weinrach encourages only light activity during the following week.
Swelling and bruising can occur after a brow lift. Swelling and bruising usually disappear within a week of the procedure. Keeping the head elevated after surgery can help with swelling. Arnica and Bromelain are also very helpful.
More modern techniques like the lateral subcutaneous lift lead to a significantly shorter recovery period than older methods like the classic or endoscopic lift, with much less pain and discomfort.
In general, most people return to work within ten days of a brow lift. However, patients must avoid strenuous exercise or other heavy activity for a few weeks after surgery until healing is complete. We are happy to work with you after a brow lift if you have any questions or concerns about the recovery process. Dr. Weinrach will schedule a follow-up visit after the procedure to make sure healing is progressing.
Dr. Weinrach is dedicated to helping patients achieve their aesthetic goals through an individualized approach to patient care and commitment to safety. His extensive experience and unique skill set produces long-lasting, natural looking results.
