Mommy Makeover

Mommy Makeover In Scottsdale & Phoenix, AZ: Jonathan C. Weinrach, MD FACS

The effects of pregnancy can take a large toll on the body. After having a baby, many women start to wonder if they could rejuvenate their body to where they were pre-pregnancy and revitalize their appearance.

As a result, the mommy makeover, which is a catch-all phrase for a group of plastic surgery procedures that help correct changes to the body and breasts after pregnancy, is one of the most popular forms of cosmetic surgery.

As each individual woman has her own unique anatomy and concerns, Dr. Weinrach custom designs each mommy makeover to accommodate those specific needs.

The vast majority of mommy makeovers involve contouring the breasts and abdomen, and may also incorporate other procedures to revitalize your appearance.  Extensive makeovers may involve more than one procedure in order to complete the process safely.

Looking to rejuvenate your body after pregnancy? Reach out to the office of Jonathan C. Weinrach, MD FACS to discuss the elements of a mommy makeover and see if the procedure is right for you. Good Candidates for A Mommy Makeover

Patients who will see the best results from mommy makeover are nonsmoking women who have waited for at least six months after giving birth and breastfeeding, and who are not planning to have another child. The delay of a few months gives your body time to return to its normal hormone levels and heal.

Having another child after a mommy makeover can reverse the results of the procedure as your abdomen will stretch out again during the pregnancy process.  Breasts will change again as well.

It is also important to be within 10-15 pounds of your ideal weight before making arrangements for a mommy makeover. Gaining or losing significant amounts of weight after a procedure can alter the results of surgery.

The best candidates for a mommy makeover are women with laxity of the abdominal muscles and sagging skin, and women with breast sagging who have realistic expectations of what can be achieved.

Smokers are not good candidates for mommy makeover procedures that include tummy tuck or breast lift. Smoking increases the risk of complications; smoking decreases blood flow to the surgical site and increases tissue carbon monoxide levels, both of which decrease delivery of oxygen to healing tissues. While it is not known what the ideal amount of time is needed to stop smoking before cosmetic surgery, Dr. Weinrach prefers at least 3 months.  A breast augmentation only without lift can be done in smokers, although risk is still lower if smoking can be stopped before surgery.

Jonathan C. Weinrach, MD FACS personally meets with each patient who comes to his office seeking a mommy makeover. He will examine your body and review your goals to determine if a mommy makeover is right for you.  He can then recommend specific procedures that will be most effective based on your anatomy and personal aesthetic concerns.

The Mommy Makeover Procedure Process

Mommy makeovers are an individualized process that is custom-tailored to each patient. Common elements of the procedure include:

Breast augmentation is designed to increase breast fullness and volume. Pregnancy and breast feeding can lead to loss of breast volume.  Dr. Weinrach performs breast augmentation by placing either saline or silicone gel filled implants into the breast area.  This is very effective in restoring or even improving upon the pre-pregnancy appearance of your breasts.

Pregnancy causes the abdomen to expand, which can lead to unsightly stretch marks, torn or damaged muscles, and drooping skin. Many women desire an abdomen that is flat and toned, and a tummy tuck is an effective procedure that is designed to present a woman with a slimmer and more aesthetically pleasing waistline. During a tummy tuck, carefully placed incisions are made in order to remove unnecessary skin and fat, repair muscles that have become stretched, and tighten up remaining skin in the area to present a more appealing profile.  These incisions are designed to be hidden by normal undergarments or swimwear.

Liposuction is is a cosmetic body contouring procedure that is designed to remove fat from parts of the body that do not respond well to a good diet or exercise plan. Liposuction helps take pockets of fat away from areas like the abdomen, hips, back, thighs, and neck. Liposuction is a popular body contouring tool and gives women a sexier physique that leads to a big boost in self-confidence.

There are a variety of available liposuction techniques that are safe and effective.  The SAFELipo technique is preferable for most cases.   Small areas of concern can often be addressed with standard liposuction using local anesthesia in the office.

Botox® and the injection of dermal fillers are cosmetic treatments that are non-invasive and involve very little downtime. Many women  are interested in reversing some of the signs of aging on the face that can appear after pregnancy.

Botox® injected into the facial muscles by Dr. Weinrach can lift the eyebrows, improve lines and wrinkles of the forehead and glabella (the area between the eyebrows and top of the nose), and reduce wrinkles in the “Crow’s feet” area.  There are also some off label uses of Botox® that are effective including improvement of lip lines, chin wrinkles, and lifting the corners of the mouth.

Dermal fillers are an all-natural and safe solution to enhance volume on the lips and cheeks.   They can also soften the appearance of nasolabial folds (parenthesis lines), marionette lines, and improve the appearance of jowls.

What Is The Recovery Period Like After A Mommy Makeover?

As a mommy makeover is a very personalized procedure, the downtime will vary significantly between patients. For example, injections of Botox® or dermal fillers can often be carried out in just a few minutes, and patients are immediately able to resume their normal daily activities.

In contrast, a mommy makeover procedure like a tummy tuck will involve some downtime, where activity should be kept very light for the first week, and significant weight-bearing exercise should be postponed for six weeks. Cosmetic procedures like liposuction can involve some swelling, but light activity and work can be resumed very shortly after surgery.

Jonathan C. Weinrach, MD FACS and his team are committed to making the recovery process after a mommy makeover as smooth as possible.

Dr. Weinrach prescribes medications to help alleviate discomfort and will follow up with each patient to make sure healing is progressing as expected.  Our office is happy to speak with you if you have any concerns or questions about the recovery process after a mommy makeover.

Mommy Makeover can involve any number of procedures necessary to correct the changes a body undergoes after pregnancy.  Women react differently to pregnancy and experience a wide range of changes that require different procedures to correct.  Common procedures involved with a Mommy Makeover include Breast Augmentation, Breast Lift, Breast Lift with Implants, Liposuction, Tummy Tuck.  A Mommy makeover can involve one or a combination of any of these procedures.  A thorough consultation with Dr. Weinrach is the best way to discuss your concerns and come up with the best possible plan to address them.

It is best to wait until pregnancies are completed before getting a Mommy Makeover.  Future pregnancies can negatively affect the results of a Mommy Makeover.   While repeat Mommy Makeover surgery after another pregnancy can certainly be done, it is probably most ideal to avoid that situation when possible.

Of course.  The procedures involved with Mommy Makeover:  Breast Augmentation, Breast Lift, Breast Lift with Implants, Liposuction, Tummy Tuck, are also commonly used to address similar issues in women who have not had children.  Loss of breast volume, breast sagging, abdominal laxity, and stubborn excess fatty areas all occur in women without children too.  These women are also candidates for the same procedures.

A Mommy Makeover can involve one or a combination of a number of procedures, including Breast Augmentation, Breast Lift, Breast Lift with Implants, Liposuction, Tummy Tuck.  The length of time the procedure takes is related to the procedures which are chosen to address the areas of concern.  This will vary greatly depending on the patient.  A thorough consultation with Dr. Weinrach is the best way to determine which procedures will be ideal in any one case.

This depends on the situation.  It is common for multiple procedures to be combined.  Sometimes for safety reasons some procedures are staged.  A lot of this decision depends on the overall health of the patient as well as the complexity of the procedure.   The best way to determine which procedures can be safely combined and which should be staged is with a thorough consultation with Dr. Weinrach.

For any breast surgery it is best to wait for at least three months after all milk production has stopped.

It is also best to wait until weight and changes in body contour have stabilized.

side effects of surgery is to not have surgery.  Women who are healthy, who do not take a lot of medicine and who do not smoke have very low risk of significant complications from mommy makeover procedures.    Mommy makeover procedures are very common and are very safely accomplished in the great majority of women, with very pleasing results.  It is vitally important to be honest and forthcoming with Dr. Weinrach about any medications or supplements you take, as well as the use of tobacco and other nicotine containing products.

This depends on the procedures that are done.  A straightforward breast augmentation can have very little downtime – some patients are out to dinner the night of their surgery;  a combination breast augmentation with a significant lift and implants, along with an abdominoplasty can involve 2 weeks of downtime or more.  Every woman’s situation is different with different anatomical concerns as well as baseline health and genetics.  These factors all influence recovery time.  A thorough consultation with Dr. Weinrach can more accurately address this question.

The best candidates for Mommy Makeover are healthy women with realistic expectations who do not smoke.  Being on some medication does not mean you are not a candidate for Mommy Makeover however.  It just depends which medications you are on and which medical issues are being treated.  The best way to sort this out is with a consultation with Dr. Weinrach.  His number one priority is always safety.  He will only recommend procedures to you if he feels it is safe and in your best interests to do so.

This varies greatly and depends on which procedures are being done.  Mommy Makeover can involve one or a number of combined procedures.   The reality is that the operating room staff, anesthesiologist, nurses, and surgical technicians are all paid hourly – the longer a case takes, the more it costs.  A woman with multiple issues requiring multiple procedures to address which can take several hours will obviously cost more than a single straightforward 1 hour case.  The best way to determine cost of a procedure is with a thorough consultation with Dr. Weinrach.  Only after discussing your concerns and after a physical examination can a plan be formulated; it is at this point that the procedures are decided upon, the approximate length of time they will take, which determines cost.

While there are countless types of insurance plans, to the best of our knowledge the great majority if not all of them will not cover the costs of mommy makeover surgery. We are not a contracted provider of any private health insurance plan; we are not able to send insurance companies any requests for coverage or letters of medical necessity in order to obtain insurance authorization.
