The natural aging process, and subsequent loss of tissue volume, makes fine line and wrinkles more pronounced and can have an impact on how you feel about the way you look. Many people think about having a facelift, but some are put off by the extent of the procedure of the necessary associated downtime.

If you are interested in restoring youthful facial volume and contours – without surgery – contact Jonathan C. Weinrach MD FACS for injectables dermal fillers in AZ. Weinrach Plastic Surgery provides a range of options to choose from, including Restylane® and Juvéderm®. Dermal fillers are safe, work immediately, and provide long-lasting cosmetic results.

Are Dermal Fillers Right for Me?

Dermal fillers are a popular cosmetic procedure because they produce nearly-instant results with very little risk and downtime. Fillers are a great option for patients who are interested in adding volume to sunken cheeks, correcting a weak jaw line, or who want to enhance the contour of the upper and lower lips. All of these cosmetic goals are a reality with dermal fillers, and patients do not need to spend several weeks recovering from their procedures.

For more advanced aging with severe tissue laxity and loose skin, fillers alone may not be adequate treatment. For optimal rejuvenation in these cases, nothing beats a surgical facelift to tighten and lift sagging tissues and remove extra skin.

Customizing Your Injectable Filler Treatment Plan

Oftentimes fillers can be administered on the same day as your initial consultation as the entire process is minimally invasive and results in little downtime. Dr. Weinrach works with all his patients to determine a course of action that will give you the best outcome and answers any questions about the dermal filler procedure. He is also able to share before-and-after photos of similar cases to help patients visualize the changes that can be realized.

Dr. Jonathan Weinrach often uses Restylane® and Juvéderm® for long-lasting wrinkle correction. Both fillers are safe and let you see results for a much longer time than collagen fillers, which were popular in the past. Both are made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance, which reduces the risk of an allergic reaction. Dermal fillers made of hyaluronic acid are some of the most popular options for patients. Side effects are usually very rare, and results can last for up to one to two years.

Even though dermal fillers are a popular cosmetic procedure, they are not able to target and treat different symptoms of late-term aging, lax skin, and vertical neck bands.

Juvéderm® Family

Juvéderm® Ultra is a dynamic filler that can treat facial wrinkles and folds, as well as add fullness to the lips. It is created using a highly cross-linked gel, allowing results to last up to one year.

Similar to Juvéderm® Ultra, this filler can improve moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Juvéderm® Ultra Plus is formulated with a higher degree of cross-linking than Juvéderm® Ultra. Results from this treatment may last more than one year, depending on the patient.

Volume loss in the midface is often a common aging concern. Juvéderm® Voluma can add subtle volume to the midface in order to lift and plump the cheek area. Natural looking results from Voluma can last up to two years.

Volbella is a filler in the Juvéderm® family that is designed specifically for use in the lips and perioral area. This product can soften the appearance of lines around the mouth or increase volume to the lips with results lasting up to one year.

Vollure is injected deep into facial wrinkles and folds in order to soften and smooth their appearance. Vollure is created with a unique balance of gel properties, allowing it to last up to 18 months.

Restylane® Family

As we age, volume loss in our face tends to become more noticeable. Restylane® is a clear gel formulated with Hyaluronic Acid (HA) that can increase fullness in facial wrinkles and folds. Some common areas treated are the smile lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth and lips in patients 21 years and older.

Designed with XpresHAn Technology, Restylane® Refyne adds volume to the face by softening moderate laugh lines such as the nasolabial folds and marionette lines. This filler uses a unique cross-linked gel that allows you to maintain your facial expressions while restoring your appearance.

Restylane® Defyne is also designed with XpresHAn Technology. However, this filler is better suited for deep smile and laugh lines. This product can treat deeper wrinkles, while still allowing you to keep natural movement in your face.

We tend to see age-related volume loss in our lips, such as thinning, decrease in volume, and an increase in verticle lines above the lips. Specifically designed for use in the lips, Restylane® Silk can plump the lips and soften lines around the mouth.

Restylane® Lyft is formulated for volume loss in the face and hands. This product can add fullness back into the cheeks and midface area, as well as the back of hands to reduce the signs of aging.

How Dermal Fillers Work: Effective Facial Rejuvenation

Cosmetic treatment with dermal fillers is usually a straightforward procedure that often lasts less than an hour. The fillers are inserted into the skin with a very fine needle. A plastic surgeon might then massage the area around the filler to make sure it molds well to your skin.

Patients might also be given local anesthesia or injection to numb the area before having the filler injected. Dr. Weinrach takes care to inject all dermal fillers into patients personally. Many other offices pass off the injection to a nurse or other practitioner, but Dr. Weinrach believes all of his patients should benefit from his extensive experience with dermal filler injection.

Before the procedure, Dr. Weinrach will carefully explain all aspects of the injection process and provide pre-treatment instructions to ensure the process goes smoothly. Dr. Weinrach reviews the medical history of all patients. It is optimal to not be taking medications and supplements that cause blood thinning or affect blood clotting before having dermal filler injections. These medications can lead to excessive bruising. It is also best to refrain from smoking.

What You Should Expect after Facial Filler Injections

The vast majority of patients are highly satisfied after receiving dermal fillers. Immediately after the procedure, you will most likely be able to see immediate changes to your face. However, it is not uncommon to also experience some swelling and bruising around the injection site.

Ice packs or cold compresses can alleviate minor discomfort and swelling after dermal filler injection. The vast majority of swelling resolves within hours to days after the procedure, but the recovery rate will depend on the type and location of the filler that was received. Hats and sunscreen are excellent ways to protect the face after filler injections.
