With age, repeated facial movements from our natural expressions will etch lines into facial skin, much like folding a sheet of paper multiple times.  When we’re young, the skin will bounce back into place, but as the years go by, skin elasticity will decrease, causing lines to remain and contribute to an aging face. Neuromodulators like Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau™ are wrinkle-smoothing injectables designed to minimize facial tissue movement, thus preventing wrinkle formation and helping you regain that youthful, rejuvenated facial beauty.

Botox® Cosmetic Overview

Botox® is the most popular cosmetic treatment worldwide. Physicians first used Botox® to treat muscle spasms; then aesthetic medicine found it to be an effective anti-aging procedure. Botox® is a well-tested, proven wrinkle resolution procedure with millions of applications since its FDA approval in 2002.

Botox® Cosmetic is the trade name for this purified protein injectable. When we apply it under the skin in small doses, it decreases crow’s feet, horizontal forehead creases, and vertical frown lines between the eyes.  We offer quick and convenient Botox® Cosmetic treatments (under half an hour) and can combine the treatment with other anti-aging treatments to enhance results.

Botox® Cosmetic is a non-surgical treatment; with results taking effect within two weeks lasting up to four months.  Side-effects are minimal with some swelling or redness around the injection site, subsiding within a day or two.

Dysport® Overview

There is an alternative to treat dynamic wrinkles for residents in Phoenix and Scottsdale. Dysport® is another FDA-cleared purified protein which often has next day results. These results last up to four months as well and provide our patients with another option in resolving expression lines and wrinkles.

Xeomin® Overview

Xeomin®, like Botox® and Dysport, reduces the impact of facial lines and wrinkles. This neuromodulator option will require periodic maintenance to maintain results. Most patients choose to receive injections every three to six months to achieve maximum effectiveness.

Xeomin® is known as a naked neurotoxin, which suggests patients can develop a resistance to its effectiveness.  Many users who choose Xeomin® do so because Botox® has become less effective over time.

Jeuveau® Overview

Jeuveau® is a neuromodulator injectable effective in erasing moderate to severe frown lines. It is a new FDA-approved treatment that we are proud to introduce to the Scottsdale and Phoenix areas.

From its creation, Jeuveau planned to be a high-quality cosmetic alternative which helps improve dynamic wrinkles and fines lines. It isn’t your mother’s Botox® but rather a new purified protein injectable for a new generation.

Choosing the Best for You

Botox®, Dysport, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau™ are similar cosmetic treatments patients use to reduce the signs of facial aging. Double board-certified, Dr. Jonathan Weinrach has vast experience with each neuromodulator and will discuss the pros and cons of each before recommending a treatment plan for you.

Patients must have realistic expectations about injectables. Botox® works best on dynamic wrinkles and lines. These are lines that appear because underlying tissue is repeatedly moving. Static wrinkles and lines form without muscle movement. The three treatments work best for patients who are trying to prevent the progression of lines and wrinkles. A good skin care routine and the regular use of sunscreen goes a long way towards preventing facial aging.

Dr. Weinrach has worked with patients of various ages who show interest in injectables. Most treatments start by focusing on crow’s feet and wrinkles on the forehead and between the eyes, but he will often inject other facial areas for smooth and balanced results.
