Description
18 year old male who desired correction of his prominent ears. Otoplasty is often erroneously referred to as “ear pinning”. In addition to “pinning”, or setback of the ear, correction of a prominent ear much more often than not involves improving or creating ear cartilage folds that are abnormally underdeveloped or absent. In his case, the fold of cartilage known as the superior crus of the antihelical fold was completely absent. The improved antihelical fold and superior crus can be most easily appreciated in the oblique view pictures. He also had excess conchal cartilage that was removed. The ear was set back with a combination of conchamastoid, tail of helix to concha, and ear lobe to concha sutures. After pictures are 7 weeks postoperative.
